The idea of cross-border eWork often conjures up an image of low skilled jobs moving to countries in which labour is cheap, but the example of Evata shows that it may involve high-skilled, high-paid creative professional work.

Evata World Wide was born in 2000 when a group of architectural practices from the UK, Finland and Spain decided to pool their resources to develop a capacity to compete on a global scale. Through close collaboration in the past, the founders had realised that cross-border collaboration can build synergies that give market leverage which delivers much greater benefits than can be achieved working in isolation from separate national bases. They decided to join forces and extend their model of close international working partnerships beyond Europe, and forged alliances with like-minded practices in Asia and the Americas.

Information technology has enabled Evata to conduct projects across the geographic boundaries of its enterprise. The building of a shopping mall or theme park in one country, can be managed from a second and designed from a third.
