1: Global Statistical Analysis This workpackage is designed to develop a comparative framework within which any country in the world (or, within the EU, any region) can measure its progress towards an information economy and define its own unique position in the new global division of labour which is emerging in telemediated information-processing activities. The starting-point for the research will be a global overview of the existing statistical evidence. In the next stage of this process, relevant indicators will be selected and data collected at the level of countries (globally) and regions (within the EU, Canada and Australia) which will then be analysed to produce cluster profiles for groups of countries (and/or regions) classified according to their role in the new international division of information-processing labour. These results will then be tested against empirical evidence and, if necessary the list of indicators will then be refined and adjusted in an iterative process. |
