The eWork relocation process, Stage 1: Background or immediate causes

Understanding the background to organisations’ decisions to relocate can alert you to the possibilities and enable early warning systems to be set up to identify possible candidates for new inward investment in your region

The background or immediate causes are those which make a relocation likely, desirable or necessary in order to achieve specific company goals, like improved profits, reduced costs, better service, etc. In general there are two main types:

1a) organisational change
eg the reorganisation of a group of companies, take-over and amalgamation of companies, establishing or reducing branches, etc.

1b) specific, one-off measures
eg creating new or abolishing old activities, serving a new market or withdrawing from an old one, etc.
