Decentralisation through outsourcing

This type involves the geographical relocation of eWork even when this was not included in the objectives of the original decision. In the course of the reorganisation of a company or the extension of its activities, it is decided to outsource additional activities to other companies for reasons of cost or expertise. The jobs that thus arise in other companies, and in consequence in other regions, are not substitutes for previous jobs but new work opportunities.

Even in the case of individual functions that simultaneously continue to be carried out by the company outsourcing the work, the business strategies and reorganisation measures at group level are essential to the decision to relocate in this type of relocation. Further, it is the characteristics of the specific companies to which work is outsourced which determines the search process, rather than the characteristics of the region(s) in which such companies may be located.
