Some example eWork goals

Some examples of goals for a regional eWork strategy might be (Click on a goal for a check-list of points to consider in developing a strategy designed to achieve the goal):

  1. empowering the individual — create a market-effective eWorkforce in the region by developing appropriate skills and competencies as well as encouraging both employer-centred and employee-centred workplace flexibility.

  2. making companies’ eWork competitive — support regional firms to improve their productivity and competitiveness by enhancing their organisational and entrepreneurial capacity through eWork, thus maximising opportunities to create new, or expand existing, eEmployment within the region.

  3. building regional society — improve the institutional and community capacity of the region by, for example, encouraging the implementation of eWork in the public and non-profit sectors.

  4. supplying and applying the technology — improve the regional availability, affordability and usability of ICT infrastructures, hardware, software and services for eWork, where necessary, for example, by combining regional resources and demand with market supply.

  5. playing to your strengths — recognise the region’s competitive advantages in relation to eWork in order to market and brand the region elsewhere, thereby gaining greater market share of available eWork for the region.

Each goal can operationalised by developing a strategy in Step 6.

Normally, goals will need to be integrated within such wider regional development goals as the development of economic stability and growth, including employment creation in general, as well as the improvement of public services, infrastructure and other issues
