Examples of targets, objectives and approaches

Appropriate targets for a regional eWork development strategy might include:

  • doubling the number of regional eWork jobs, either through outsourcing or inward investment from other regions, over five years, whilst halving eWork loss (see job gain and loss)

  • increasing the take-up of regional ICT skills courses by 1,000 over five years (see eWork skills and knowledge management.)

  • reaching agreement within one year between the region’s social partners on eWork implementation so that both company- and worker-centred flexibility is enhanced.

Objectives could also cover one or both of the following approaches:

  1. sustaining and developing existing eWork opportunities in the region as part of a strategy to ensure the longer term viability of eWork jobs

  2. creating and attracting new eWork opportunities, for example from other regions, so that the region becomes a favoured and attractive destination for footloose eWork jobs.

See eWork relocation for details why and how this takes place.
